Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(15) Even the weight for the candlesticks of gold.--Rather, and a (specified) weight for the golden lampstands, and their golden lamps, in the weight of each lampstand and its lamps; and (a weight) for the lampstands of silver by weight, for a lampstand and its lamps, according to the service of each lampstand. The meaning still is that David gave Solomon a description of the designated articles, fixing the proper weight for each. (Comp. Exodus 25:31 sqq., the great golden candelabrum of the Mosaic sanctuary.) No mention of the silver lampstands occurs anywhere else in the Old Testament. According to the Rabbis, they stood in the chambers of the priests.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrewthe weightוּמִשְׁקָ֞ל (ū·miš·qāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4948: Weight, weighingof the goldהַזָּהָ֗ב (haz·zā·hāḇ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2091: Gold, something gold-colored, as oil, a clear skylampstandsלִמְנֹר֣וֹת (lim·nō·rō·wṯ)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 4501: A chandelierand theirזָהָ֔ב (zā·hāḇ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2091: Gold, something gold-colored, as oil, a clear skylamps,וְנֵרֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ (wə·nê·rō·ṯê·hem)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine pluralStrong's 5216: A lamp, lightincluding the weightבְּמִשְׁקַל־ (bə·miš·qal-)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 4948: Weight, weighingof each lampstandמְנוֹרָ֥ה (mə·nō·w·rāh)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 4501: A chandelierand its lamps;וְנֵרֹתֶ֑יהָ (wə·nê·rō·ṯe·hā)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 5216: A lamp, lightthe weightבְּמִשְׁקָל֙ (bə·miš·qāl)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4948: Weight, weighingof each silverהַכֶּ֤סֶף (hak·ke·sep̄)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3701: Silver, moneylampstandוְלִמְנֹר֨וֹת (wə·lim·nō·rō·wṯ)Conjunctive waw, Preposition-l | Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 4501: A chandelierand its lamps,וְנֵרֹתֶ֔יהָ (wə·nê·rō·ṯe·hā)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 5216: A lamp, lightaccording to the useכַּעֲבוֹדַ֖ת (ka·‘ă·ḇō·w·ḏaṯ)Preposition-k | Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 5656: Work of any kindof each lampstand;לִמְנוֹרָ֣ה (lim·nō·w·rāh)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 4501: A chandelierJump to PreviousCandlestick Candlesticks Different Gold Golden Lampstands Needed Service Silver Support Thereof Use Vessel Vessels Weight
