Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(10) This verse, again, nearly coincides with the parallel in Samuel. The variations look like corrections and explanatory or paraphrastic substitutions. Thus the word "go is here imperative, instead of the less usual infinitive; "saving" is added by way of clearness; the easier phrase, "I offer thee" (spread or lay before thee), is given in place of the curious "I lift up" (i.e., impose) "on thee" (noteh for not?l: a change such as is common in the Targum); and, lastly, the pronoun of them, which is masculine in Samuel, is more correctly feminine here.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrew“Goלֵךְ֩ (lêḵ)Verb - Qal - Imperative - masculine singularStrong's 1980: To go, come, walkand tellוְדִבַּרְתָּ֨ (wə·ḏib·bar·tā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 1696: To arrange, to speak, to subdueDavidדָּוִ֜יד (dā·wîḏ)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1732: David -- perhaps 'beloved one', a son of Jessethat this is whatכֹּ֚ה (kōh)AdverbStrong's 3541: Like this, thus, here, nowthe LORDיְהוָ֔ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelsays:לֵאמֹ֗ר (lê·mōr)Preposition-l | Verb - Qal - Infinitive constructStrong's 559: To utter, say‘Iאֲנִ֖י (’ă·nî)Pronoun - first person common singularStrong's 589: Iam offeringנֹטֶ֣ה (nō·ṭeh)Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine singularStrong's 5186: To stretch out, spread out, extend, incline, bendyou three [options].שָׁל֕וֹשׁ (šā·lō·wōš)Number - feminine singularStrong's 7969: Three, third, thriceChooseבְּחַר־ (bə·ḥar-)Verb - Qal - Imperative - masculine singularStrong's 977: To try, selectoneאַחַ֥ת (’a·ḥaṯ)Number - feminine singularStrong's 259: United, one, firstof them,מֵהֵ֖נָּה (mê·hên·nāh)Preposition | third person feminine pluralStrong's 2007: Themselvesand I will carry it outוְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ (wə·’e·‘ĕ·śeh-)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive imperfect Cohortative if contextual - first person common singularStrong's 6213: To do, makeagainst you.’”לָּֽךְ׃ (lāḵ)Preposition | second person feminine singularStrong's Hebrew Jump to PreviousCarry Choose David Offer Offered Options Speak Stretching Three
