Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(20) Hur begat Uri . . . Bezaleel.--See Exodus 31:2, which states that: " Bezaleel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah," was divinely qualified for building the Tent of Meeting. Bezaleel is no doubt a person, but Hur is probably a Calebite clan, established at "Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem" (Genesis 35:19).Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewHurוְחוּר֙ (wə·ḥūr)Conjunctive waw | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 2354: Hur -- four Israelites, also a Midianitewas the father ofהוֹלִ֣יד (hō·w·lîḏ)Verb - Hifil - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3205: To bear young, to beget, medically, to act as midwife, to show lineageUri,אוּרִ֔י (’ū·rî)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 221: Uri -- 'fiery', three Israelitesand Uriוְאוּרִ֖י (wə·’ū·rî)Conjunctive waw | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 221: Uri -- 'fiery', three Israeliteswas the father ofהוֹלִ֥יד (hō·w·lîḏ)Verb - Hifil - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3205: To bear young, to beget, medically, to act as midwife, to show lineageBezalel.בְּצַלְאֵֽל׃ (bə·ṣal·’êl)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1212: Bezalel -- 'in the shadow (protection) of El', two IsraelitesJump to PreviousBegat Begot Bezaleel Bezalel Bez'alel Hur Uri
