Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(2) Juice of my pomegranate.--"The Orientals," says Dr. Kitto, "indulge largely in beverages made of fresh juice of various kinds of fruits. Among these, sherbet made of pomegranate juice is particularly esteemed; and from its agreeable and cooling acidity, the present writer was himself accustomed to prefer it to any other drink of this description." The meaning of the verse is explained by Song of Solomon 1:2; Song of Solomon 5:1; Song of Solomon 7:9.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewI would lead youאֶנְהָֽגֲךָ֗ (’en·hā·ḡă·ḵā)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 5090: To drive forth, lead, carry away, to proceed, to sighand bring youאֲבִֽיאֲךָ֛ (’ă·ḇî·’ă·ḵā)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gotoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe houseבֵּ֥ית (bêṯ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1004: A houseof my motherאִמִּ֖י (’im·mî)Noun - feminine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 517: A mother, )who taught me.תְּלַמְּדֵ֑נִי (tə·lam·mə·ḏê·nî)Verb - Piel - Imperfect - third person feminine singular | first person common singularStrong's 3925: To exercise in, learnI would give you spicedהָרֶ֔קַח (hā·re·qaḥ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7544: Perfumery, spicerywineמִיַּ֣יִן (mî·ya·yin)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3196: Wine, intoxicationto drink,אַשְׁקְךָ֙ (’aš·qə·ḵā)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 8248: To quaff, to irrigate, furnish a, potion tothe nectarמֵעֲסִ֖יס (mê·‘ă·sîs)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 6071: Must, fresh grape-juiceof my pomegranates.רִמֹּנִֽי׃ (rim·mō·nî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 7416: A pomegranate, the tree, the fruitJump to PreviousCause Chamber Conceived Drink Hand House Instruct Juice Lead Mightest Mother Mother's Nectar Perfumed Pomegranate Pomegranates Taught Teach Teacher Used Wine
