Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(10) Bottom.--Heb., rephidah = supports. Probably the back of the litter on which the occupant leaned. The midst thereof . . .--Literally, its interior paved love from the daughters of Jerusalem. There are three possible renderings. (1) Its interior made bright by a lovely girl of, &c; and (2) its interior paved in a lovely way by, &c; (3) its interior tesselated as a mark of love by, &c. The last of these does the least violence to the text as it stands, but very possibly some words have dropped out between ratzuph, paved, and ahabah, love.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewHe has madeעָ֣שָׂה (‘ā·śāh)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6213: To do, makeits postsעַמּוּדָיו֙ (‘am·mū·ḏāw)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 5982: A column, a stand, platformof silver,כֶ֔סֶף (ḵe·sep̄)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3701: Silver, moneyits baseרְפִידָת֣וֹ (rə·p̄î·ḏā·ṯōw)Noun - feminine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 7507: Perhaps a supportof gold,זָהָ֔ב (zā·hāḇ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2091: Gold, something gold-colored, as oil, a clear skyits seatמֶרְכָּב֖וֹ (mer·kā·ḇōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 4817: A chariot, riding seatof purple [fabric].אַרְגָּמָ֑ן (’ar·gā·mān)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 713: Purple, red-purpleIts interiorתּוֹכוֹ֙ (tō·w·ḵōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 8432: A bisection, the centreis inlaidרָצ֣וּף (rā·ṣūp̄)Verb - Qal - QalPassParticiple - masculine singularStrong's 7528: To tessellate, embroiderwith loveאַהֲבָ֔ה (’a·hă·ḇāh)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 160: Love (noun)by the daughtersמִבְּנ֖וֹת (mib·bə·nō·wṯ)Preposition-m | Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 1323: A daughterof Jerusalem.יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (yə·rū·šā·lim)Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 3389: Jerusalem -- probably 'foundation of peace', capital city of all IsraelJump to PreviousBase Bottom Covering Daughters Ebony Fabric Fitted Gold Inlaid Inside Interior Jerusalem Love Middle Midst Paved Pillars Posts Purple Seat Silver Support Thereof Top Within Wrought
