Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(4) And Moses did as the Lord commanded him.--That is, he not only summoned Aaron and his sons, but had their holy vestments, the oil, and the sacrifices brought, which were necessary for the consecration.Unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.--Better, to the entrance of the tent of meeting. These representatives of the people, and as many more as the place would conveniently hold, occupied the ?court-yard, whilst the people at large who wished to witness the solemn consecration of the priesthood probably occupied the neighbouring places which overlooked the enclosure. According to a tradition which obtained in the time of Christ, this ceremony took place on the 23rd of the month Adar, or February.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewSo Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔ה (mō·šeh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 4872: Moses -- a great Israelite leader, prophet and lawgiverdidוַיַּ֣עַשׂ (way·ya·‘aś)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6213: To do, makeasכַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר (ka·’ă·šer)Preposition-k | Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatthe LORDיְהוָ֖ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelhad commanded him,צִוָּ֥ה (ṣiw·wāh)Verb - Piel - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6680: To lay charge (upon), give charge (to), command, orderand the assemblyהָֽעֵדָ֔ה (hā·‘ê·ḏāh)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 5712: A stated assemblagegatheredוַתִּקָּהֵל֙ (wat·tiq·qā·hêl)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Nifal - Consecutive imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 6950: To gather as an assembly or congregationatאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe entranceפֶּ֖תַח (pe·ṯaḥ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 6607: An opening, door, entrance wayto the Tentאֹ֥הֶל (’ō·hel)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 168: A tentof Meeting.מוֹעֵֽד׃ (mō·w·‘êḏ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4150: Appointed time, place, or meetingJump to PreviousAssembled Assembly Collected Commanded Congregation Door Doorway Entrance Gathered Meeting Moses Opening Tabernacle Tent Together
