Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(25) And the priest shall take.--Here, again, the difference in the ritual is to be observed. In case of his own sin offering and in that of the congregation, the high priest himself performed the principal ceremony (Leviticus 4:5-17), whilst at the sin offering of the prince the common priest officiated. The blood of the victim was not sprinkled before the vail of the Holy of Holies, nor on the incense altar which stood in the Holy, but on the brazen altar which was placed outside in the court.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThen the priestהַכֹּהֵ֜ן (hak·kō·hên)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3548: Priestis to takeוְלָקַ֨ח (wə·lā·qaḥ)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3947: To takesome of the bloodמִדַּ֤ם (mid·dam)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1818: Blood, of man, an animal, the juice of the grape, bloodshedof the sin offeringהַֽחַטָּאת֙ (ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 2403: An offence, its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, expiation, an offenderwith his finger,בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ (bə·’eṣ·bā·‘ōw)Preposition-b | Noun - feminine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 676: Something to sieze with, a finger, a toeapplyוְנָתַ֕ן (wə·nā·ṯan)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5414: To give, put, setit toעַל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstthe hornsקַרְנֹ֖ת (qar·nōṯ)Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 7161: A horn, a flask, cornet, an elephant's tooth, a corner, a peak, a ray, powerof the altarמִזְבַּ֣ח (miz·baḥ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 4196: An altarof burnt offering,הָעֹלָ֑ה (hā·‘ō·lāh)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 5930: Whole burnt offeringandוְאֶת־ (wə·’eṯ-)Conjunctive waw | Direct object markerStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative casepour outיִשְׁפֹּ֔ךְ (yiš·pōḵ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 8210: To spill forth, to expend, to sprawl outthe rest of the bloodדָּמ֣וֹ (dā·mōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 1818: Blood, of man, an animal, the juice of the grape, bloodshedatאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe baseיְס֖וֹד (yə·sō·wḏ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3247: Foundation, baseof the altar.מִזְבַּ֥ח (miz·baḥ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 4196: An altarJump to PreviousAltar Base Blood Bottom Burned Burnt Burnt-Offering Draining Finger Horns Offering Pour Priest Remaining Rest Sin Sin-Offering Thereof
