Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(5, 6) And whosoever toucheth his bed.--The defiling power of the patient was so great that the bed, seat, or saddle which he rendered unclean by any of the above-named five acts polluted again any one who came in contact with these articles in seven different ways: by standing, sitting, lying, hanging, leaning, touching, or bearing them. The person thus polluted had to remain in this condition, debarred from the privileges of the sanctuary, till sundown, when he had to wash his garments, and immerse his whole body in water.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAnyoneוְאִ֕ישׁ (wə·’îš)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 376: A man as an individual, a male personwhoאֲשֶׁ֥ר (’ă·šer)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thattouchesיִגַּ֖ע (yig·ga‘)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5060: To touch, lay the hand upon, to reach, violently, to strikehis bedבְּמִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ (bə·miš·kā·ḇōw)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 4904: Place of lying, a couch, act of lyingmust washיְכַבֵּ֧ס (yə·ḵab·bês)Verb - Piel - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3526: To trample, to washhis clothesבְּגָדָ֛יו (bə·ḡā·ḏāw)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 899: A covering, clothing, treachery, pillageand batheוְרָחַ֥ץ (wə·rā·ḥaṣ)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7364: To wash, wash off or away, bathewith water,בַּמַּ֖יִם (bam·ma·yim)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 4325: Water, juice, urine, semenand he will be uncleanוְטָמֵ֥א (wə·ṭā·mê)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanuntilעַד־ (‘aḏ-)PrepositionStrong's 5704: As far as, even to, up to, until, whileevening.הָעָֽרֶב׃ (hā·‘ā·reḇ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 6153: EveningJump to PreviousBathe Bathed Bed Body Clothes Clothing Evening Garments Moreover Touches Toucheth Touching Unclean Wash Washed Water
