Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English ReadersXXXV.(1) In the days Jehoiakim.--The prophecy that follows carries us back over a period of about seventeen of years to the earlier period of the prophet's life and work. Jerusalem was not yet besieged. Jehoiakim had not filled up the measure of his iniquities. The armies of the Chaldaeans were, however, in the meantime moving on the outskirts of the kingdom of Judah (Jeremiah 35:11) or were driving the nomad inhabitants, who had hitherto dwelt in tents, to take refuge in the cities. The first capture of the city by Nebuchadnezzar was in B.C. 607.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThis is the wordהַדָּבָ֛ר (had·dā·ḇār)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1697: A word, a matter, thing, a causethatאֲשֶׁר־ (’ă·šer-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatcameהָיָ֥ה (hā·yāh)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, betoאֶֽל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, toJeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּ (yir·mə·yā·hū)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3414: Jeremiah -- 'Yah loosens', the name of a number of Israelitesfrom the LORDיְהוָ֑ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelin the daysבִּימֵ֨י (bî·mê)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 3117: A dayof Jehoiakimיְהוֹיָקִ֧ים (yə·hō·w·yā·qîm)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3079: Jehoiakim -- 'the LORD raises up', three Israelitessonבֶּן־ (ben-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1121: A sonof Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּ֛הוּ (yō·šî·yā·hū)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 2977: Josiah -- 'Yah supports', two Israeliteskingמֶ֥לֶךְ (me·leḵ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 4428: A kingof Judah:יְהוּדָ֖ה (yə·hū·ḏāh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3063: Judah -- 'praised', a son of Jacob, also the southern kingdom, also four IsraelitesJump to PreviousJehoiakim Jehoi'akim Jeremiah Josiah Josi'ah Judah Reign Word
