Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(15) And so, after he had patiently endured.--Better, and thus (thus being in possession of the promise and the oath of God), having patiently waited (Hebrews 6:12) he obtained the promise--the promised gift. Though some portions of the promise received a partial accomplishment during Abraham's life, it is not this that the writer has in view.
