Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(19) Shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee.--In Genesis 40:13 the lifting up of the butler's head meant his elevation to his former rank. Here there is the significant addition "from off thee," implying that he would be beheaded, and his body publicly exposed to ignominy.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewWithinבְּע֣וֹד ׀ (bə·‘ō·wḏ)Preposition-b | AdverbStrong's 5750: Iteration, continuance, again, repeatedly, still, morethreeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת (šə·lō·šeṯ)Number - masculine singular constructStrong's 7969: Three, third, thricedaysיָמִ֗ים (yā·mîm)Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 3117: A dayPharaohפַרְעֹ֤ה (p̄ar·‘ōh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 6547: Pharaoh -- a title of Egypt kingswill liftיִשָּׂ֨א (yiś·śā)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5375: To lift, carry, takeyour headרֹֽאשְׁךָ֙ (rō·šə·ḵā)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 7218: The headoff of youמֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ (mê·‘ā·le·ḵā)Preposition-m | second person masculine singularStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstand hangוְתָלָ֥ה (wə·ṯā·lāh)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 8518: To suspendyouאוֹתְךָ֖ (’ō·wṯ·ḵā)Direct object marker | second person masculine singularStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative caseonעַל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againsta tree.עֵ֑ץ (‘êṣ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 6086: Tree, trees, woodThen the birdsהָע֛וֹף (hā·‘ō·wp̄)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5775: Flying creatureswill eatוְאָכַ֥ל (wə·’ā·ḵal)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 398: To eatthe fleshבְּשָׂרְךָ֖ (bə·śā·rə·ḵā)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 1320: Flesh, body, person, the pudenda of a, manof your body.”מֵעָלֶֽיךָ׃ (mê·‘ā·le·ḵā)Preposition-m | second person masculine singularStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstJump to PreviousBirds Eat Eaten Flesh Food Hang Hanged Hanging Head Lift Pharaoh Prison Three Tree Within
