Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(58) Wilt thou go with this man?--A woman in the East has little choice in the matter of her marriage, and here, moreover, everything was so plainly providential, that Rebekah, like her father and brother (Genesis 24:50), would have felt it wrong to make difficulties, and she expresses her readiness to go at once, though she will never see her relatives again. Of course there would be some little delay for preparation, but none for leave-taking.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThey calledוַיִּקְרְא֤וּ (way·yiq·rə·’ū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 7121: To call, proclaim, readRebekahלְרִבְקָה֙ (lə·riḇ·qāh)Preposition-l | Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 7259: Rebekah -- wife of Isaacand askedוַיֹּאמְר֣וּ (way·yō·mə·rū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 559: To utter, sayher,אֵלֶ֔יהָ (’ê·le·hā)Preposition | third person feminine singularStrong's 413: Near, with, among, to“Will you goהֲתֵלְכִ֖י (hă·ṯê·lə·ḵî)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person feminine singularStrong's 1980: To go, come, walkwithעִם־ (‘im-)PrepositionStrong's 5973: With, equally withthisהַזֶּ֑ה (haz·zeh)Article | Pronoun - masculine singularStrong's 2088: This, thatman?”הָאִ֣ישׁ (hā·’îš)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 376: A man as an individual, a male person“I will go,”אֵלֵֽךְ׃ (’ê·lêḵ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - first person common singularStrong's 1980: To go, come, walkshe replied.וַתֹּ֖אמֶר (wat·tō·mer)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 559: To utter, sayJump to PreviousReady Rebecca Rebekah Wilt
