Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(6) Gomer . . . Togarmah.--Again the address turns to the extreme north. Gomer, like Magog, a people descended from Japheth (Genesis 10:2; 1Chronicles 1:5), is identified with the Cimmerians; and for the house of Togarmah, the Armenians, see Note on 27:14. In the last clause of the verse, people should be in the plural. This was to be a general gathering of the strength of the world against the Church of God.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewGomerגֹּ֚מֶר (gō·mer)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1586: Gomer -- a son of Japheth, also his descendants, also the wife of Hoseawith allוְכָל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyits troops;אֲגַפֶּ֔יהָ (’ă·ḡap·pe·hā)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 102: Wings of an army, crowds of troopsand Beth-togarmahבֵּ֚ית (bêṯ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1004: A housefrom the farיַרְכְּתֵ֥י (yar·kə·ṯê)Noun - fdcStrong's 3411: Flank, side, extreme parts, recessesnorthצָפ֖וֹן (ṣā·p̄ō·wn)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 6828: Hidden, dark, the north as a, quarterwith allכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyits troops—אֲגַפָּ֑יו (’ă·ḡap·pāw)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 102: Wings of an army, crowds of troopsmanyרַבִּ֖ים (rab·bîm)Adjective - masculine pluralStrong's 7227: Much, many, greatnationsעַמִּ֥ים (‘am·mîm)Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 5971: A people, a tribe, troops, attendants, a flockwith you.אִתָּֽךְ׃ (’it·tāḵ)Preposition | second person masculine singularStrong's 854: Nearness, near, with, by, at, amongJump to PreviousBands Beth Beth-Togarmah Beth-Togar'mah Far Forces Gomer Great Hordes House Inmost North Parts Peoples Quarters Remote Sides Togarmah Troops Uttermost
