Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(16) Filled the midst of thee.--The language passes very naturally here from the king himself to the state over which be presided, and with which he was identified, immediately recurring, however, to the king personally. He, as polluted, should be cast out of his imagined mountain of God: he, the cherub covering the mercy-seat, forsooth, shall be destroyed: his fancied God-like walking amid the stones of fire shall for ever cease.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewBy the vastnessבְּרֹ֣ב (bə·rōḇ)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 7230: Multitude, abundance, greatnessof your trade,רְכֻלָּתְךָ֗ (rə·ḵul·lā·ṯə·ḵā)Noun - feminine singular construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 7404: Traffic, merchandiseyouתוֹכְךָ֛ (ṯō·wḵ·ḵā)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person masculine singularStrong's 8432: A bisection, the centrewere filledמָל֧וּ (mā·lū)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 4390: To fill, be full ofwith violence,חָמָ֖ס (ḥā·mās)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2555: Violence, wrong, by meton, unjust gainand you sinned.וַֽתֶּחֱטָ֑א (wat·te·ḥĕ·ṭā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 2398: To miss, to sin, to forfeit, lack, expiate, repent, lead astray, condemnSo I drove you in disgraceוָאֶחַלֶּלְךָ֩ (wā·’e·ḥal·lel·ḵā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Consecutive imperfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 2490: To bore, to wound, to dissolve, to profane, to break, to begin, to playfrom the mountainמֵהַ֨ר (mê·har)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2022: Mountain, hill, hill countryof God,אֱלֹהִ֤ים (’ĕ·lō·hîm)Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 430: gods -- the supreme God, magistrates, a superlativeand I banished you,וָֽאַבֶּדְךָ֙ (wā·’ab·beḏ·ḵā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Consecutive imperfect - first person common singular | second person masculine singularStrong's 6: To wander away, lose oneself, to perishO guardianהַסֹּכֵ֔ךְ (has·sō·ḵêḵ)Article | Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine singularStrong's 5526: To entwine as a, screen, to fence in, cover over, protectcherub,כְּר֣וּב (kə·rūḇ)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3742: Probably an order of angelic beingsfrom amongמִתּ֖וֹךְ (mit·tō·wḵ)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 8432: A bisection, the centrethe fieryאֵֽשׁ׃ (’êš)Noun - common singularStrong's 784: A firestones.אַבְנֵי־ (’aḇ·nê-)Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 68: A stoneJump to PreviousAbundance Cast Cherub Covering Destroy Destroyed Disgrace Drove Evil Expelled Filled Fire Full Guardian Merchandise Midst Mount Mountain Multitude Profane Shamed Sinned Stones Trade Trading Traffic Violence Violent Ways Widespread Winged
