Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(9) Brought him to the king of Babylon.--2Kings 24:8-17. Jehoiachin reigned only three months when Jerusalem was conquered by Nebuchadnezzar. He "went out to the king of Babylon," but only because he could not help doing so, and was carried to Babylon and put in prison, where he was still living at the time of this prophecy. It was not till many years later that he was released (Jeremiah 52:31-32).Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewWith hooksבַּֽחַחִ֔ים (ba·ḥa·ḥîm)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 2397: A ring for, the nosethey caged himוַֽיִּתְּנֻ֤הוּ (way·yit·tə·nu·hū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine plural | third person masculine singularStrong's 5414: To give, put, setand brought himוַיְבִאֻ֖הוּ (way·ḇi·’u·hū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine plural | third person masculine singularStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gotoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe kingמֶ֣לֶךְ (me·leḵ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 4428: A kingof Babylon.בָּבֶ֑ל (bā·ḇel)Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 894: Babylon -- an eastern Mediterranean empire and its capital cityThey brought himיְבִאֻ֙הוּ֙ (yə·ḇi·’u·hū)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - third person masculine plural | third person masculine singularStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gointo captivityבַּמְּצֹד֔וֹת (bam·mə·ṣō·ḏō·wṯ)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - feminine pluralStrong's 4686: A net, capture, a fastnessso thatלְמַ֗עַן (lə·ma·‘an)ConjunctionStrong's 4616: Purpose -- intenthis roarקוֹל֛וֹ (qō·w·lōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 6963: A voice, soundwas heardיִשָּׁמַ֥ע (yiš·šā·ma‘)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 8085: To hear intelligentlynoלֹא־ (lō-)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nolongerע֖וֹד (‘ō·wḏ)AdverbStrong's 5750: Iteration, continuance, again, repeatedly, still, moreonאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe mountainsהָרֵ֥י (hā·rê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 2022: Mountain, hill, hill countryof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (yiś·rā·’êl)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3478: Israel -- 'God strives', another name of Jacob and his descJump to PreviousBabylon Cage Chains Custody Heard Holds Hooks Hunting Israel Mountains Nets Nose-Rings Prison Prisoner Roar Strong Strongholds Voice Ward
