Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(23) Ye shall see no more vanity.--As so often the judgment is expressed in the same form with the Sin. These false prophetesses had sinned by their lying visions, and they should see them no more, because the event should soon expose their utter falsity to the eyes of all. The result would be the deliverance of God's people, whom they sought to ensnare, and their own conviction, not in penitence, but under judgment, that He is the Lord.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrewthereforeלָכֵ֗ן (lā·ḵên)AdverbStrong's 3651: So -- thusyou will noלֹ֣א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nolongerע֑וֹד (‘ō·wḏ)AdverbStrong's 5750: Iteration, continuance, again, repeatedly, still, moreseeתֶחֱזֶ֔ינָה (ṯe·ḥĕ·ze·nāh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person feminine pluralStrong's 2372: To gaze at, to perceive, contemplate, to have a, vision offalse visionsשָׁ֚וְא (w)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7723: Evil, idolatry, uselessnessor practiceתִקְסַ֣מְנָה (ṯiq·sam·nāh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person feminine pluralStrong's 7080: To distribute, determine by lot, magical scroll, to divinedivination.וְקֶ֖סֶם (wə·qe·sem)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7081: A lot, divination, oracleI will deliverוְהִצַּלְתִּ֤י (wə·hiṣ·ṣal·tî)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singularStrong's 5337: To strip, plunder, deliver oneself, be delivered, snatch away, deliverMy peopleעַמִּי֙ (‘am·mî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 5971: A people, a tribe, troops, attendants, a flockfrom your hands.מִיֶּדְכֶ֔ן (mî·yeḏ·ḵen)Preposition-m | Noun - feminine singular construct | second person feminine pluralStrong's 3027: A handThen you will knowוִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ן (wî·ḏa‘·ten)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - second person feminine pluralStrong's 3045: To knowthatכִּֽי־ (kî-)ConjunctionStrong's 3588: A relative conjunctionIאֲנִ֥י (’ă·nî)Pronoun - first person common singularStrong's 589: Iam the LORD.’”יְהוָֽה׃ (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of IsraelJump to PreviousArts Cause Deliver Delivered Delusive Divination Divinations Divine Foolish Free Hand Longer Power Practice Save Secret Use Vanity Visions Women
