Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(3) They brought yet unto him free offerings.--The liberality of the people continued. After the work was taken in hand, and making progress, they kept still bringing in fresh offerings morning after morning, until the workmen found that they had more than enough. Compare the liberality shown when David was collecting materials for the Temple (1Chronicles 29:6-9); and, again, when Zerubbabel was about to rear up the second Temple on the return from the Captivity (Ezra 2:68-70; Nehemiah 7:70-72).Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThey receivedוַיִּקְח֞וּ (way·yiq·ḥū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 3947: To takefrom Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗ה (mō·šeh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 4872: Moses -- a great Israelite leader, prophet and lawgiverallכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe contributionsהַתְּרוּמָה֙ (hat·tə·rū·māh)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 8641: Contribution, offering (for sacred uses)thatאֲשֶׁ֨ר (’ă·šer)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatthe Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י (bə·nê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 1121: A sonhad broughtהֵבִ֜יאוּ (hê·ḇî·’ū)Verb - Hifil - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, goto carry outלִמְלֶ֛אכֶת (lim·le·ḵeṯ)Preposition-l | Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 4399: Deputyship, ministry, employment, work, propertythe serviceעֲבֹדַ֥ת (‘ă·ḇō·ḏaṯ)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 5656: Work of any kindof constructingלַעֲשֹׂ֣ת (la·‘ă·śōṯ)Preposition-l | Verb - Qal - Infinitive constructStrong's 6213: To do, makethe sanctuary.הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (haq·qō·ḏeš)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 6944: A sacred place, thing, sanctityMeanwhile, the peopleוְ֠הֵם (wə·hêm)Conjunctive waw | Pronoun - third person masculine pluralStrong's 1992: Theycontinued to bringהֵבִ֨יאוּ (hê·ḇî·’ū)Verb - Hifil - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gofreewill offeringsנְדָבָ֖ה (nə·ḏā·ḇāh)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 5071: Spontaneity, spontaneous, a spontaneous, abundant giftmorningבַּבֹּ֥קֶר (bab·bō·qer)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1242: Dawn, morningafter morning,בַּבֹּֽקֶר׃ (bab·bō·qer)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1242: Dawn, morningJump to PreviousBuilding Carry Children Constructing Construction Continued Contributions Free Free-Offerings Freewill Freewill-Offerings Heave-Offering Holy Israel Israelites Kept Morning Moses Offering Offerings Perform Received ring Sanctuary Service Voluntary Wherewith Willing-Offering Withal Work
