Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(35) And his sound shall be heard.--Rather, that its sound may he heard. The great object of the bells was to make known to the people, by a sensible manifestation, every movement of their representative, every act that he performed on their behalf. The bells enabled them to follow in their thoughts the entire service that he was engaged in, to join their prayers and praises with his, and offer to God a common worship. So important was this union of priest and people in the worship of God regarded, that death was denounced on the high priest who should minister in the sanctuary without this essential garment.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן (’a·hă·rōn)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 175: Aaron -- an elder brother of Mosesmust wearעַֽל־ (‘al-)PrepositionStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstthe robeוְהָיָ֥ה (wə·hā·yāh)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, bewhenever he ministers,לְשָׁרֵ֑ת (lə·šā·rêṯ)Preposition-l | Verb - Piel - Infinitive constructStrong's 8334: To attend as a, menial, worshipper, to contribute toand its soundק֠וֹלוֹ (qō·w·lōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 6963: A voice, soundwill be heardוְנִשְׁמַ֣ע (wə·niš·ma‘)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Nifal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 8085: To hear intelligentlywhen he entersבְּבֹא֨וֹ (bə·ḇō·’ōw)Preposition-b | Verb - Qal - Infinitive construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, goor exitsוּבְצֵאת֖וֹ (ū·ḇə·ṣê·ṯōw)Conjunctive waw, Preposition-b | Verb - Qal - Infinitive construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 3318: To go, bring, out, direct and proximthe sanctuaryהַקֹּ֜דֶשׁ (haq·qō·ḏeš)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 6944: A sacred place, thing, sanctitybeforeלִפְנֵ֧י (lip̄·nê)Preposition-l | Noun - common plural constructStrong's 6440: The facethe LORD,יְהוָ֛ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelso that he will notוְלֹ֥א (wə·lō)Conjunctive waw | Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nodie.יָמֽוּת׃ (yā·mūṯ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 4191: To die, to killJump to PreviousAaron Bells Clear Death Die Enters Goes Heard Holy Keeping Leaves Minister Ministers Safe Service Sound Thereof Tinkling Wear Work
