Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(14) Throughout.--To wit, for all the army, an apposition.Shields, and spears (r?m?chim, "lances"), and helmets, and habergeons (shiryonoth, "coats of mail" "cuirasses ").--For the heavy armed."Habergeon" is an old English word, meaning armour for neck and breast.Bows, and slings . . . stones.--For the light armed. (See margin.)Slings to cast stones.--Literally, stones of slings (the le is the mark of the accusative). They are mentioned to show that the equipment was complete.
