Pulpit Commentary
Pulpit CommentaryVerse 8. - If the trumpet give an uncertain sound. A spiritual exhortation should be like the "blowing of a trumpet in Zion;" but if, as in "the tongue," the trumpet only gave forth an unintelligible blare, its sounds were useless.
Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(8) For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound.--Not only has each instrument its own sound, but in each instrument there is a distinction of notes.
